Overland Park, KS Arboretum has a bell in the center of a flower garden that rings with the wind. It is well stocked with a variety of flowers and vegetables. It is changed three times a year. People pass on the path stopping to enjoy the spectacular colors.

The Greased Gremlin is a Hot Wheels Original, one of their Speedway Specials first released in 1979. It was one of my favorite toys, amplified by the fact that my Aunt drove an actual Gremlin! More than 40 years later, I still have my Super Rally Case, filled with the die cast treasures of my childhood. I created this series of linocut prints as a way to revisit my earliest years as an artist, when my favorite medium was crayon and my preferred subjects were semis, monster trucks and race cars. And they all had flames on the side! The prints are limited to an edition of 15, and embellished with acrylic paint to add the detail of the decals and the bright yellow bumpers. My hope is to evoke fond memories of carefree days for all who see it.

"One Mother"; recalls DNA analysis that supports the concept that the original " mother" lived 200,000 years ago in East Africa, and that as her descendants, we as sisters of the world come together as one mother...to care for, love, and nurture in kindness, respect, empathy and acceptance for every child. Beginning with a spontaneous, free-form ink drawing, the artist allows lines to wander, collide, and suggests shifting forms before layering acrylic paint to build luminous fields of color and texture. The results is an abstract landscape of motion and atmosphere, where drifting shapes and layered marks hint at clouts, currents, and distant horizons without ever settling into a fixed scene. This torn paper painting is a lush, vibrant artwork depicting a tropical jungle scene bursting with life and color. This piece is created using hand-dyed fabric and intricate thread painting. After dyeing the cloth, I chose not to cut it—the emerging design was simply too beautiful to disrupt. Instead, I embraced it as a whole cloth, allowing the colors and organic patterns to guide every quilting decision. The stitching follows the natural movement of the fabric, enhancing its layered hues of blue, green, and soft neutrals. Radiating forms and textured surfaces begin to emerge, evoking something found in nature—like tide pools, lichen, or other small miracles often overlooked. For me, this piece feels like a quiet celebration of nature’s complexity and beauty, where careful craftsmanship meets the serendipity of the dye process.

Vrikshasana is a large scale abstract painting created with joint knives, rubber blades and construction tools. It is titled after the Tree Pose in modern yoga. Tree Pose a classic standing balance posture that cultivates stability, focus, and calm awareness. This posture strengthens the legs, ankles, and core while improving balance and coordination. It also encourages proper posture and body awareness. This luminous abstract work is influenced by Hennick’s meditation and yoga practice.

The yellow and orange "Armour Yellow" paint scheme commonly associated with Union Pacific equipment, often seen on Heritage Fleet passenger cars, stems from a 1930s redesign meant to evoke speed, luxury, and cleanliness. These cars are part of a fleet preserved by the Union Pacific to honor its history, with many dating back decades.

I have been teaching art for almost two decades, including the likes of Kindergarten through 12th grade and even at the college level. My students can attest that I do not let them waste anything. I am constantly spraying down paint with water to keep it usable, picking objects off the floor and keeping articles that others might find useless. It is also common to see me digging in the trash because “I...can use this for something.” Through this, I have been collecting discarded materials that I feel could be used within my art. My artwork is built one layer at a time. Although my theme is aimed at portraying the various emotions the heart can experience; when I begin a piece, I do not have an image of what the end result might be. I incorporate what I am feeling into the materials I have found on my scavenger encounters. I had always despised the symbol of the heart. To me, it represented something that everyone knows how to draw, and a sappy feeling of love…uggghhhh!!! I thought, “Real artists don’t use hearts, or any symbols for that matter.” The year 2007, I went through an incredibly tumultuous time in my life. The result, I literally “felt” the spectrum of emotions my heart endured. This phenomenon led me to redefine what I thought the “heart” represented. My series “Junk of the Heart” represents all the junk, or emotions, that can be endured and what we choose “do” with them. The product is a metaphor for how the "junk" of our hearts can be transformed and reinvented into art.

Passing Through the Flames is a piece of pottery that reminds me that personal trials often result in a more beautiful character. It is only in the passing through the stresses of the Raku process that the basic clay vessel is transformed into a gorgeous ceramic creation. In raku the piece is taken from room temperature to nearly two thousand degrees fahrenheit in about an hour. While still glowing red hot the piece is placed in a combustion chamber filled with sawdust and wood shavings. The heat from the pottery catches the wood on fire. Then the lid is place back on the chamber cutting off the flow of oxygen from outside. Since the fire wants to continue burning it pulls oxygen from the copper carbonate glaze leaving the elemental copper behind. To capture the copper glaze the piece is then plunged into water and cooled to room temperature again with a hiss of steam released as the pot cools back down in less than a minute. Only the most resilient of clay vessels make it through the flames in one piece, however, those that do make it have beautiful markings and depth of color. Similarly, humans who are passed through the flames of difficult circumstances pick up a beauty and depth of character also.

Bouquet is a wall bowl. It is fully functional with food safe glazes but it is also able to be hung on the wall. It features a swoosh of circles and spirals that remind me of flowers.

Endeavor is a wheel thrown fully functional, food safe bowl for the table. If features a bold colors and black swirls to give the impression of flowers or planets or fireworks. This bowl endeavors to make me smile every time I see it.
