I an a lucky Artist. I have lived most of my life in two of the most beautiful areas for nature in this country. Wisconsin and the Kansas Flint Hills.

My oldest On lives in Wisconsin. His house is surrounded by Marsh. Deer and Sandhill Cranes walk through his yard. Lucky him

Ceramic form with velvetleaf impression. I am inspired by nature and use natural items such as leaves to create lasting artwork. Each leaf is used only once so every ceramic piece is unique. Velvet Leaf was created by pressing a velvetleaf weed into a slab of speckled buff clay. After cutting around the leaf and shaping it, the leaf was removed and discarded. After being bisque fired, a glossy green glaze was applied and then sanded off to accentuate and reveal the veins in the leaf. Leaves have continually been a favorite subject for my work. I enjoy looking for leaves to use in my pottery to preserve the beauty of each leaf in a lasting form. The size is 9x9x2 inches. KM1971. IMG_9809.

Ceramic bowl with crocheted doily imprint. This bowl was made using white stoneware clay and was finished with a vivid turquoise glaze. The color turquoise is associated with calmness, tranquility, healing and rejuvenation. I pressed a crocheted doily into a slab of clay and carefully cut around the shape before forming it. The doily was removed and could be washed and reused without harm. The bowl was glazed with a turquoise glaze that accentuates the texture and details of the doily. The back of the bowl is glossy black. The bowl is food, microwave and dishwasher safe. The size is 11x11x3 inches. KM3312. IMG_4212.

I pressed the doily into a slab of white stoneware clay and carefully cut around it before shaping it into a bowl form with wavy edges. The doily was removed and washed to be reused without harm. The bowl was finished with a greenish brown shino glaze that accentuates the texture and crochet detail yet gives an earthy and rustic look. The back of the bowl was finished with an oakwood brown glaze. The bowl is food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The size is 10x10x3 inches. KM1724. IMG_4061.

Ceramic shuttlecock with doily imprint. My shuttlecock was created using white clay with a lace doily imprint to evoke the image of the Kansas City shuttlecocks on the lawn at the Nelson-Atkins Museum of Art. It was glazed with a white glaze and light reddish-copper glaze to accentuate the texture and details of the doily. The bottom/inside of the shuttlecock was glazed with a white glaze to allow for display when laid sideways. I enjoy creating pottery using crocheted doilies made by my great-grandmother. I pressed the doily into a slab of clay and carefully cut around the shape before forming it. The doily was removed and washed to be reused without harm. The finished size is approximately 6x5 inches. KM3832. IMG_9810.

The Sunflowers, butterfly, bee and ladybug are kiln-casted and installed with a rare-earth magnets, raising them above the background for flight and reflections on the background. The Blue abstract background was made with several shades of blue, a bit of copper and white glass that was ground fine and mixed with a medium and poured in a design on top of piece of glass. Gai oil was dripped to create additional interest. The glass was then fired in the kiln to use heat and manipulation to form blended colors and crackles of texture. This glass was then tack fused to a white glass background for a glass mat/frame. It is mounted on brushed stainless steel, wired for hanging with welded brackets to keep the artwork flat and straight on the wall with no tilting. The installation of the sunflowers and butterfly with rare earth magnets additionally makes it easier to ship and install.

Glass Sculpture inspired by a spectrum of colors and defying gravity in the sculpture design

Triangles, blues and the sparkle of dichroic glass mounted together on brushed stainless steel. Inspiration: all the blues in nature -especially all the different shades of blue in the sky and water. All 3 large triangles were mounted on brushed stainless steel in a specific planned designed. It is wired for hanging with welded brackets to keep the artwork flat and straight on the wall with no tilting.

A glass sculpture in the shape of a triangle with rhythm and flows of blues and the sparkle of dichroic glass. Inspiration: all the blues in nature - especially all the different shades of blue in the sky and water... Artistic Process: First the design then lots of measuring and cutting of glass into 1 large triangle of dark blue and one small triangle of swirls of blue with a dark blue border. These 2 layers were fused together then coldworking the edges to ensure they are smooth and straight. The thicker components start with blue base, cutting up many different styles of dichroic glass and making a mosaic with clear glass on top to create depth, all casted. other dichroic components are cut. All the embellishments (components) were then tack fused to the background. Displayed in a black steel stand that keeps the sculpture very sturdy.

Glass Sculpture. The background is 2 cut transparent glass circles fused together first, then the "floral petals", center and patterned pebbles along the edges were tack fused in a separate firing for texture and dimension. The "floral petals" are made with pattern bars that are assembled into a flower design, the patterned pebbles were made from cut up pieces of the pattern bars See Below for an explanation of a pattern bar. The center is made with ground glass. The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.

A log cabin was begun many years ago on our property but never completed. The site of the potential construction is slowly decaying back into the surrounding forest. It creates a compelling image of colors, patterns, and textures, especially in early Spring.

The grand old Union Station is one of my favorite locations to photograph. I remember coming in on the train to Union Station as a child. This picture and the slight blurring of the visitors by the Amtrak Waiting Room sign seems reminiscent of all of the travelers who have passed through the station.
