Inspired by Bill Withers song “Grandma’s Hands,” I wanted to showcase a sense of familiarity and grounding to the viewer. As an adult I don’t remember much of my grandmother, but her loving soft hands were always engrained in my mind.

Remember the thrill and joy you had as a kid going as high as you could! What a HEART FULL OF JOY. Let this painting take you back to your childhood, and to all the magic of swinging high as you could.

Inspiration: the harmony of colors, movement and serenity while kayaking along our lake Artistic Process: The first step was cutting multiple layers of different glasses with shards of glass on top in a specific pattern inside a stainless steel round mold as a dam to contain the glass. Using a specific program to ramp up and hold the heat in the kiln to spread and stretch the glass to create a unique design. After coldworking the edges, I then cut 2 circles of clear glass for the bottom and top to create more depth in design while also stretching the glass larger. The glass stand is made of layers of white glass fused together and then kilnformed into shape including a slot to support the sculpture with cold working to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.

Inspiration: the sparkling colors and movement under the sea. Artistic Process: The background is black and then is layered with colored and dichroic glass in varying depth under clear glass with multiple firings in the kiln to attain the design and depth. The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape including a slot to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.

This 36 x 36 inch large scale abstract painting on gallery canvas is installed in a black floating frame. Ardha Kapotasana was created with palette knives and nontraditional tools. Titled after the Half Pigeon Pose, Ardha Kapotasana resembles a pigeon puffing up its chest. The pose opens the hips and stretches the hip flexors and lower back. This large scale abstract expressionist work is influenced by Hennick’s meditation and yoga practice.

Loving-Kindness Dhyāna #7 is one of eight in a series of abstract paintings created with palette knives and non traditional tools. These abstract works are inspired by the different styles of meditation. The Dhyāna Series was created in 2021 and cut from the same birch panel board. A framed 12″ x 12″ acrylic painting on birch panel installed in a white floating frame.

Pranayama No.10 is one in a series of abstract paintings created with palette knives, rubber blades and non traditional tools. This abstract acrylic work is inspired by the yogic practice of focusing on the breath to elevate the prana-shakti (life energies). Pranayama No.10 was painted on birch panel and has a clear glossy finish. It measures 12 x 12 inches and is professionally mounted in a black floating frame. The Pranayama Series was created in 2024.

Nursing makes up the largest portion of healthcare positions. There are about 3 nurses to every 1 physician. When a person leaves the hospital, they are more likely to remember their nurse or nurses than they are the doctor, because the nurses were right there with them through the hard times. They are in it with you, so it should come as no surprise that every year since 2002, nurses have been seen as the profession with the highest level of honesty and ethics across ALL jobs in the United States. They exemplify empathy, care, patience and compassion. They also have amazing job satisfaction with more than 93% saying they are happy they chose a career in nursing and 85% saying if they had to do it all over again, they would still choose to be a nurse. That blows all other careers away. This painting shows a nurse wading into the water to symbolize that in the healthcare realm, they are downstream and all the tributaries lead to them and through them. Nurses don't just dip their toe in. They're fully committed, every day, and no matter how rough the waters get, your nurse will be by your side. Thank you to every nurse out there. This painting is but a small way to show how much we appreciate that you are with us when we are at our most fragile.
