On the drive from Key West, eastward toward Miami, and just before entering the 5 mile bridge system, I caught the setting sun silhouetting this mangrove tree. I thought the tree created additional interest to the beautiful sky and water.

This painting is part of a series of images of faces in the sunlight. This image is from a photograph I took on the street in Kansas City. Painted with a palette knife and layers of glazes. It was an exploration of paint and composition. Painted in 2022.

Hanging in the sky you see the phases of the sun as it passes behind the Moon creating the brilliant ring pinned to the center.

This unique look at the April 8th 2024 Solar Eclipse shows an almost cat-like whisker pattern forming as the sun continues along it's path from behind our closest celestial body, The Moon.

"Let the Sun Shine In" is a visual expression of the joy I feel when shooting butterflies. A prominent symbol in my work, butterflies represent resiliency. Yet, they are a gentle reminder of the fragility of life. I’ve photographed them in nature as well as in captivity. Being surrounded by butterflies in a contained space is pure joy as they playfully encircle you, alight for a moment and flutter away. It’s like a soft kiss from a new love: both mindful and mindless—a truly transformative moment. All the botanical imagery is photographed in and around the gardens of Kansas City. I turn each photograph into an individual drawing that is imbued with the color of graffiti walls. The imagery is burnished onto the panel in layers by hand through an alternative printmaking process. Mediums: acrylic paint, spray paint, pigment ink and gold leaf. The entire panel and sides are gold leafed. I hope this work evokes joy, playfulness and sunshine!

Photographer uses a style called "Painting with Light", where once the photo is taken all of the light is stripped away, and added back subjectively to get the effect intended for the photo. Literally painting the light back in. No additions or subtractions are made to anything in the photo, other than the light.

The birds peacefully coexisting serve as a perfect embodiment of the harmonious balance present in the natural world.

Glass Art Inspiration: This sparkling glass sculpture is inspired by the need for heat - the warmth of the fire in the fireplace on a winter night or the warmth of the sun in the summer (maybe I'm just dreaming of more warmth after our recent snow...). Artistic Process: Designing, cutting and firing together various dichroic glass* with clear glass on top to create depth. Then it was formed into a wavy format. The glass stand is kilnformed into a shape to support the sculpture with coldworking to ensure the bottom is level and sturdy.

I imagined gathering wildflowers on the Tall Grass Prairie. This is just a small sample of the beauty blooming on the prairie.

After the spring bulbs are finished, the coreopsis is one of the first perennials that come up in my yard. The green shoots come up first, then small balls form on the slender stems. Then on that first really warm day of spring, when you get that feeling that winter is truly finished and warmers days are ahead... the sunny, yellow faces make an entrance!! There they are to greet me when I come home from an errand or walk. The long winter is over, and I can bring the sunshine inside in a vase.

This was painted in one setting without drawing. I wanted to capture the movement of water.

I thoroughly enjoyed painting this little piece with a large expanse from side to side as far as the eye could see. The intensity of contrast between warm and cool side by side brought me to a state of thankfulness and praise to the manifestation of God's hand in active display. The sunset 0n Canon Beach, OR, at Haystack Rock was profoundly visually eye-catching, surreal and breathtaking. I cannot say enough about the enveloping sense of joy, peace, and moreover the delight where all senses were called upon, especially the smell of fish, sounds of seagulls, gentle warm winds to hear and feel, and sounds of gently rolling undulating waves of water and seafoam as a finale to the song of the sea to still the soul and mind repeated over and over again. The touch of shells and sand heightened my senses into the song of awe and wonder of the sea.

Ceramic bowl with crocheted lace doily imprint. Sunflower Lace emerged from the delicate imprint of a crocheted doily, its intricate pattern pressed into a smooth slab of white stoneware clay. After cutting around the design and coaxing the clay into a soft, wavy bowl form, the doily was lifted away and washed so it could be used again without damage. Layers of black and sunflower glazes were then brushed on to highlight the pattern and the subtle texture left by the crochet work, while the back of the bowl was finished with a sleek, glossy black that grounded the entire form. From different perspectives, the bowl reveals new nuances—the raised pattern catches light in unexpected ways, the curves shift in depth, and the interplay of black and sunflower tones changes as the viewer moves. This idea of perspective underscores how seeing an object from multiple angles can deepen understanding and invite a richer appreciation of its form and intention. The bowl is food, microwave, and dishwasher safe. The size is 11.5" W x 3" H. KM2560. IMG_9127.

I took this picture during an autumn snowstorm, thus the light colored streaks flying across the scene and the beautiful color of the remaining leaves. I decided to change the picture into a black & white except for the tree. I wanted the tree to stand out and help tell my story that we can almost always find something positive even in challenging and undesirable situations.

The reflections in the Missouri River were unusually bright on this day. While sketching a towboat passed under the twin Hwy 291 bridges to create a perfect sketch outing. From a sketching trip to La Benite Park.
