acrylic on three birch panels | 2020 The panels are framed separately in 1.75 inch wide distressed white wood frames and are designed to hang side by side (though they could also be arranged vertically). The framed size of each panel is 12 x 15 x 0.75 inches. My mother, who died in December 2020, loved flowers and music; so I painted this garden triptych in her memory. For the soundtrack, I recommend the 1938 Carnegie Hall performance of "Sing, Sing, Sing" by the Bennie Goodman Orchestra with Gene Krupa on drums.

Making tea requires patience. One needs to measure out the proper amount of loose leaf tea leaves, set the kettle for the appropriate water temperature, and the timer for the correct steeping time. Each step brings calmness while the drinking brings serenity.

My granny had a south window where she always had a profusion of African Violets. She taught me that the secret to success with plants was to remember that they are members of the family and talk with them every day. She did say "talk with," and that includes listening. She always listened to her African Violets, and they always responded. I think of her every time I talk with the African Violets in my south window, and I painted this companion to "Grandpa's ghost" (2018) with all of them in mind.

Every summer as a child I spent weekends at the beaches in Delaware. Who doesn't feel the thrill of getting that kite up in the air and seeing the bright colors waving?!

These ducks were making their home in a small puddle in the Baker Wetlands. Kansas is a dry place to live, inviting creatures to live wherever they find a bit of water. I used my own photographs, printed on fabric, and incorporated them into fabric patchwork. Machine embroidery quilts the layers together and mimics the cattails in the photos.

Waterlilies, lily pads. Seems like a perfect place for a turtle's habitat. I make a large variety of fabric flowers sewn from castoff sewing materials. They usually have wire encased so they can be shaped to be more realistic. Not only do I research what the flowers look like, but I search for sewing materials that will help make the flowers and leaves recognizable.

Printed on Lumachrome HD paper as a face-mounted acrylic, this image depicts the main family unit of the African elephant -- the herding group. Composed of the adult females and their young, this group was on its way to the water hole in Nxai Pan National Park, Botswana.

Memories of home include my sister and I fishing at Ozark lake.
