Susan Gainen's Prime Directive is to Provide Whimsy Whenever Possible. She paints four ways in watercolor: Geometric abstractions called nanoscapes, whimsical creatures called Small Friends, whose portraits and stories are collected in two books; tiny watercolors scanned and manipulated to make daily digital magic; and The Lost Cave Paintings of Saint Paul (MN), which are excavations from an imaginary cave near the Mississippi River.
