Bio:
Born and raised in southern California. BA University of Redlands, CA; MFA Fort Hays State University, Hays, KS. Art teacher in KS public schools for 18 years. Now living in Lawrence, KS, where I concentrate on my artwork and serve as a volunteer docent at the Spencer Museum of Art. My mixed media paintings on canvas reflect my interest in the beauty and complexity of the art and architecture of cities we visit, as well as the ways in which cultures interact with the natural world. My materials include my photos, decorative papers, sheet music, maps and objects collected in our travels, assembled as a beginning structure for the image. The painted image, using acrylics, grows out of the forms and colors in the collage materials and reflects that complexity of my surroundings which inspires me. My work has been shown in numerous juried shows, including the Juried Art Exhibition of KS/MO Women Artists at the Carter Art Center and in the 4th Annual Juried Art Exhibition at Images Art Gallery in KS, MO. I have shown at the Strecker-Nelson-West Gallery in Manhattan, KS, and at various sites in Lawrence, including Theatre Lawrence, Cider Gallery and the Phoenix Underground.
