Bio:
Inspired by the natural beauty of Kansas, I use color, mark, shapes and shadows to paint the landscape around me. Light and time create an important source of energy for my work and are a challenge in my creative process. The majority of may work is oil paint on natural wood panel. These materials are very durable and travel well when I paint en plain air. Most recently I have been working with watercolor on paper. These pieces are matted, glass-covered and framed. I feel my work is most successful when I start my landscapes on location as representations in the traditional manner. I then develop them further by simplifying and abstracting elements and details. With composition and color, I paint perspective into every piece. I often exaggerate with color, horizons and skies as a way to emphasis the beauty of the plains landscape.
