Bio:
I am a local professional artist new to this area having moved here from Marysville, Kansas in the fall of 2015, and having moved to Marysville from Rhode Island in 2007. I fell in love with the beauty of the Midwest. For the first time in my career as an artist I attempted to catch some of its beauty in paintings and etchings that are more representational in style. My work is a form of proclamation. Paintings are large, often comprised of multiple smaller panels. Some are executed in oils, others in acrylics, depending on whether additional materials are incorporated into the final work. I attempt to speak to the “soulâ€, seeking emotional response. Etchings and woodcuts are smaller, due to restrictions of press size. The process of printmaking has changed. I used to engrave, or scratch through asphaltum when preparing a metal plate in the preliminary etching process. Now I use photosensitive materials and transparent masters prepared on acetate. Techniques are refined continually, but in the final work, emphasis is directed toward spontaneity and the surprise that often accompanies abstract expressionistic style. I have worked consistently throughout my adult life in the arts regardless of the job or profession constituting my “day job†participating in many group and juried shows, as well as placing work in galleries and private collections. The work has been well received, winning awards in New York, Pennsylvania and Rhode Island. Judith Scott
