Haukos is a native of the tallgrass prairie, having been born and raised in South Dakota. She have lived and worked in the shortgrass prairie, the mixed grass prairie and now the tallgrass prairie of the Flint Hills and feels like she has come back home. She is a prairie educator and advocate.
