Bio:

Jeannie hopes to bring to viewers perspectives they might miss. Particular negative shapes or patches of color may catch her eye. “Sometimes it is a scene that I glimpse as I am traveling down a country road that catches my heart. I travel quite a bit and I always bring my paints and paper.” Jeannie began art training at evening classes at the Kansas City Art Institute. “I knew nothing about drawing a figure and had no idea where to begin. The class was one where there was no instruction, and when the pose began, I could hear pencil scratching on paper all around me. I was in a panic not knowing where to begin. Somehow though I found my way and ended up getting an A in the course. I was hooked!” Over time Jeannie took classes in oils and pastels, but it after taking a week-long class from watercolorist David Millard that she became a watercolorist. “I love the fluidity of watercolor and I like that it can be both delicate and bold.” She has found the portability of watercolor makes it the idea medium for painting plein air. She also enjoys painting still lives and interiors. Jeannie McDermott has shown her work at the Prairie Village City Hall Gallery, a solo show at Westwood City Hall, and has exhibited with the Buena Vista Watercolorists at Roeland Park City Hall several times. Her artwork has been published in Friendly Women.
