Bio:
ARTIST INFORMATION: GEORGE MOELLER I was born and raised in the Johnson County area. Attended Westwood View School, Prairie Elementary and Shawnee Mission High School. (There was only one at that time.) I attended and graduated from the University of Colorado. Except for brief periods of time, I have been living in Johnson County for all my life. 1. After 50 years of photography and being retired, I decided that I wanted to transform my photos into a different art form so I began taking watercolor painting lessons from Jim Hamil. After three years of watercolor applications a friend suggested that I try painting with oils. I have attended classes at Johnson County Community College including as a substitute teacher and found that I enjoyed the relative freedom of expression that oils allowed. My preference for subject material is the great outdoors but I have painted still life's (especially flowers) and animal portraits. My styles include realism, pointillism and impressionistic. I use many colors and combinations, and working with light and its direction and presence on the subject matter. Most of my work is on specially prepared panels that I cut to size and finish. I also like to make frames and finish my work for hanging. Recently, I began working with encaustic mediums which have allowed more freedom of brush work and advanced colorization of finished works. I have had my work shown for purchase at The First Art Gallery of Olathe, Kansas and IMAGES Art Gallery in Overland Park, Kansas, Flint Hills “Symphony in the Flint Hills†show and one person showings at The First National Bank of Olathe, Amore Chocolate Pizza Company in Town Center Plaza, Leawood and Homer's Coffee Shop in Overland Park, Kansas. My work has been selected for exhibit at the Prairie Village “State of the Arts†show, City of Merriam Heartland Art Exhibition , Buttonwood Gallery in Kansas City, Missouri and GKCAA sponsored shows. I belong to the Greater Kansas City Art Association of Kansas City (GKCAA) of which I am the current President, and have been a Monthly Blue Ribbon winner for oil paintings and encaustics and received a first place ribbon in the GKCAA Annual Blue Ribbon show. My works are in private collections in the Kansas City area, Kansas, Colorado, Illinois, Washington D.C. and Wisconsin.
