Bio:

ARTIST STATEMENT I love to problem solve in 2 dimensions, and the visual elements involved with painting/drawing allow me to be in complete control in discovering multiple ways I can express myself visually on a two-dimensional surface. The photograph or on-location subject is just a starting point. I take artistic license to transpose trees, change sky color, enlarge or reduce the sizes of objects so that they will fit my aesthetic guidelines. I find that I am attracted to strong diagonals, and in many of my paintings, this directional energy is evident. My approach to all my paintings is to create a compelling composition by using line, value, shape, texture, and color harmony to establish a mood. I look for a strong sense of eye movement through the painting. I strive for a dynamic abstraction that creates interest above and beyond the subject itself. I will use a sketch pad with pencil, a dry marker board, or sketch/paint with a brush. I usually create a painting by first visualizing the steps of the finished vision from end to beginning. Then I create the painting by reversing those steps.
