Bio:
Brooks Garretson is a 15 year old artist who has always had a vivid imagination and keen visual eye. He has transformed his love of sports, super heroes and dinosaurs into original art forms from the age of 7. He has had multiple works selected as “top purple award†winning pieces for display at the annual Kansas State 4-H Fair, the Salina Chamber of Commerce, the Saline County Community Access TV Art Show, and was the feature story on the front page of the Salina Journal in August of 2013 for his visual arts entry. Brooks was the youngest artist to have a 3- month art show at a local credit union. Each year, Brooks likes to work in a new milieu that he has never attempted before. This past year he created a 9 ½ foot velociraptor out of papier-mâché over chicken wire from a 3†plastic molded form model. He’d like to someday create visual art sets and prefers to work with mixed mediums and 2 and 3 dimensional projects. He is the youngest of 5 children and loves playing all kinds of sports, singing, being in service organizations and is the proud brother of Camden Garretson who was diagnosed with Asperger’s Syndrome at the age of 4 ½ years. He wants people to know that when you meet someone with autism to look beyond what you see on the outside because there is so much more there than meets the eye.
