Bio:

I am an emerging abstract artist whose work is rooted in gratitude, resilience, and the complicated beauty of second chances. I originally studied art in college in the 1970s but stepped away from painting for decades while life unfolded in all the ways it does—career, responsibilities, and "adulting". Everything changed in 2018 when I received a double-lung transplant. That experience gave me a new life in every sense of the word, and with it came an unexpected return to art. After more than fifty years away from painting, I picked up a brush again and discovered that color, movement, and abstraction were the language that allowed me to express emotions too complex for words. My paintings are built through bold colors, sweeping gestures, and spontaneous marks. The palettes are expressions of joy and gratitude for life renewed, while deeper tones acknowledge the grief and reverence I carry for the family of my donor, whose loss made my second chance possible. This celebration and remembrance lives at the center of my work. Painting itself is both cathartic and reflective, allowing me to translate lived experience into color and motion. As an emerging artist, I am honored that my work has already begun to find its way into the Kansas City art community. My paintings have been accepted by two Kansas City galleries for four exhibitions, and I am a proud member of the Kansas City Artists Coalition (KCAC). These opportunities have encouraged me to continue developing my voice and sharing this deeply personal journey through abstract expression. Ultimately, my work is about transformation and how life can fracture, reshape, and bloom again. I hope my paintings communicate the profound miracle of breath, gratitude, and the enduring grief for those whose generosity, in the midst of their own unimaginable grief, gave me this opportunity.
