MARK ALAN ANDERSON is an award winning artist, art educator, and writer, exploring first hand the intersections of natural and human-built environments. Artist Statement. My sketching practice is an ongoing dialogue with place: built environments, rural vernacular structures, overlooked edges of urban space, and the overlap of the natural world with human-made structures. Working on location in small formats allows me to respond directly to shifting light, mood, and atmosphere. I favor loose, gestural marks that reflect the immediacy of the experience, with an emphasis on design and composition rather than photographic detail.
