Bio:
Marcia Willman’s life-long love of watercolors was first inspired by family friend and renowned, late Kansas City watercolor artist, Mathew Monks. She took her first art class with Mathew at the Nelson Atkins Museum as a child. After graduating with a degree in political science from UMC, Marcia moved to San Francisco where she learned watercolor and collage art from Canadian artist, David Tygesen. She tagged the streets of San Francisco with collage art play bills featuring punk bands before returning to Kansas City where she pursued a Master’s in Public Administration and worked for years in nonprofit management. As a creative outlet while working, Marcia began studying watercolor painting with Ed Fenendael of Door County, Wisconsin in 1997. She was granted a certificate in fine arts with a painting emphasis in 2010 from the Kansas City Art Institute. More recently Marcia has taken workshops with master watercolor artists Joseph Zbukvic, Alvaro Castagnet, Andy Evansen, and Mary Whyte. Marcia joined the Missouri Valley Impressionist Society (MVIS) in 2012 in order to participate in the first annual Brush Creek Art Walk in Kansas City where she won second place in Zone 1. Currently she is honing her skills in outdoor painting and participating in a dozen plein air events annually where she enjoys the challenge, camaraderie, and encouragement of other artists. In addition to MVIS, Marcia is a member of the American Watercolor Society (AWS) and the Missouri Watercolor Society (MOWS).
