Bio:
I am a retired professor of linguistics with a long-standing interest in drawing and painting. Much of my recent work involves asemic texts. Though viewers recognize such texts as comprising written symbols, these symbols are nevertheless unfamiliar; whatever specific semantic significance they might possess can, at best, only be guessed at from context. This is reminiscent of the state of mind of a child who cannot yet read words but who can "read" a book by drawing inferences from its pictures.
