Whether it's music or painting or writing or something else, I like to start something and see where it goes. Gesture, react, build, subract. The work tells you when it's done. Or, maybe it just needs a rest. It may call out weeks or months later to tell you that it's ready to try something new. Labels and descriptions (even titles) can limit what we see and feel. When a piece is as complete as it will ever be, it's good to still wonder "What is that thing and what does it mean?".
