Bio:

Abby is a Kansas City-based painter and illustrator. Originally from St. Louis, Missouri, she moved to the west side of the state in 2011 to study urban planning and design, where she was first introduced to charcoal. Abby has experimented in a variety of artistic mediums including drawing, darkroom photography, and ceramics, and as a child was actively involved in theater, choir, and dance. Abby works professionally as an urban designer and planner at a reputable local design firm. She views community building as an artistic endeavor, and is particularly focused on the role of artists in urban revitalization and real estate development. She is the founder of Small Developers of Kansas City, an initiative promoting and building capacity for local "citizen developers" with a passion for their neighborhoods, creative placemaking, and historic restoration. Many artists have interacted with the organization to explore strategies to preserve artist occupancy in emerging arts districts through local ownership models and anti-displacement strategies.
