Bio:
I have a BAE from Kansas University and had taught art for 30 years. I currently live in Lawrence where I have a studio in The Phoenix Gallery. I create loose and expressive oil paintings intended to realistically and emotionally represent my subjects. My process is inspired by the old masters techniques by using a blend of traditional value blocking, glazing, and impasto. I begin with a well drawn image, fix it to the canvas, and then layer the paint using a limited palette consisting of muted colors. I utilize light and contrast in order to emphasize my focal points and areas of interest. Once a painting is complete, I have it professionally photographed/scanned, and then print that image on acid-free archival paper. I create limited edition prints in a wide variety of sizes, framed and unframed. I focus mostly on painting commissions for people who want to immortalize a loved one (human or animal), a place, or themselves. They send me photos of the subject and I create a unique painting specified just for them. I also sell other merchandise and teach individual and small group classes.
