Bio:
Philo Northrup’s assemblages and ArtCars have been widely exhibited over the past several decades, mostly on the West Coast. He moved to KC in 2021 and will be exhibiting in 2023 at Habitat Contemporary, the Smalter Gallery and the KC Artists Coalition. His sculptures are all made from found objects. Consumer cast-offs reassembled according to a new grammar, revealing the gleaming, unconscious workings of us all. Philo’s artwork has been the subject of over 50 gallery & museum exhibitions including the San Jose Museum of Art, California Museum of Art, USC Fisher Museum of Art, Nevada Museum of Art, Triton Museum of Art, Museum of New Mexico, Burning Man Art Festival, Museé de la Revolution Français and the Mesa Art Center. He also was selected for the LACE Annualé in Los Angeles, and received grant awards from Art Matters and the National Endowment for the Arts. His art has been featured in many articles including the NY Times, Artweek, LA Times, Juztapoz, Artillery, Smithsonian, Wired, SF Chronicle, SF Weekly (cover story) and two Wall Street Journal profiles. Philo’s ArtCars take two years to complete and drive every day. They’ve driven over the Rockies and onto your street.
