Bio:
I am Susan Richards, a native Kansan and self-taught weaver. I intertwine my mindful passions of weaving, gardening, and yoga to harness strength in a creative way. I allow intuition to guide my work, creating a balance between the material, the art, and the artist - Wabi Sabi - with its imperfections and impermanence. I use humble materials; discarded fibers, recycled clothing, items forgotten, fallen sticks and tree branches to create an intentional contemplation of what was and present a new story of what is... right now. I have been showing my weaving work in local gallery spaces since 2012. I am a registered artist with ArtKC.org and InterUrban Arthouse. ARTIST STATEMENT: My weaving objective is to restore purpose and dignity to abandoned things - if only for a short time.
