"Sensory Overload"
February 7th through March 28th, 2014
On average, one in every 55 children in the USA has an autism spectrum disorder. To celebrate the many ways we interact with and interpret the world around us, the exhibition features artworks created to explore textures, visual and sensory expression.
Net sales will benefit The Golden Hat Foundation (goldenhatfoundation.org), an international charity founded by actress Kate Winslett committed to honoring the intellectual capabilities of those challenged with autism. Several pieces in the gallery have been created by individuals with autism including Shawnee Mission South students.
Public Reception on First Friday March 7th, 2014. 6 - 9 pm.
The First Friday Artist Reception on March 7th will include meeting the artists, selected readings by Dwayne DeTurk author of So Much More, a fiction book about severe autism, some words from the Golden Hat Foundation, and a silent auction: Iris Grace prints--a four-year old autistic artist from Britain (Her website is www.IrisGracePainting.com), along with art by local autistic children and other items. A VIP/Sponsor/Purchase Patron ticket-only reception will be held from 5pm to 6pm before the public opening.
The exhibition will hang February 7th through March 28th. Gallery open Monday-Friday from 9am to 5pm.
