"2017 Penn Valley Park Plein Air"
May 13th through June 29th, 2017
The 2017 Penn Valley Park Plein Air is again hosted at Buttonwood Art Space. This exciting mid-town Kansas City event included a week-long painting competition held in Penn Valley Park where visitors were able to watch painters from the region as they created paintings.
Plein Air, meaning “in the open air,” is a form of art created outdoors. Plein air painting is about leaving the four walls of your studio behind and experiencing painting and drawing in the natural landscape. The practice goes back for centuries but was truly made into an art form by the French Impressionists. They deviated from the rules of art and headed outdoors to paint sunshine and natural light.
