Bio:
Darla Zook grew up in the wide-open spaces of western Oklahoma working with her Father on the family farm. Music was a creative outlet for her family. These experiences planted in her the passion to portray through her art and music the beauty she sees. Now living on a farm in Missouri, she is married to Duane Zook; they have two daughters, Casey and Shelby.
After graduation with a BA in Art and Music Education, Darla taught art for twenty-nine years, retiring in 2006. While teaching, she continued to create her own personal art, also completing a MA with an emphasis on transparent watercolor from Central Missouri State University. She illustrated the book, "The Yoder Outsiders", by James Yoder, with both a watercolor painting and pen and ink drawings.
Painting plein air is a recent endeavor which supports her artistic theory that the earth is a living, breathing sculpture created by the Master's hand. Every day has anticipation of how light reflects on surfaces as the sun rises over the horizon and sets in the west, making each day a unique work of art, a gift from God. Darla's desire is to illustrate that beauty in her art.
