Bio:

Amie J. Jacobsen is the full-time designer and resident artist at Machine Head, a metal fabrication shop in the Kansas City Crossroads that specializes in art-metal, designer pieces, and sculpture work. She is a life-long artist with a history in painting, illustration, design and art education. She has illustrated 12 children’s books and her work has been seen in magazines, products and packaging, advertising and fine art. She transitioned to 3D design and metal working just 2 years ago, and her current work includes both 2D and 3D pieces in metal, wood, paint, and mixed media. Amie has a BA in Studio Art, and an MFA in Illustration from the Savannah College of Art and Design (SCAD), where she taught as a Professor of Illustration from 2006-2015. “My artwork has always been heavily influenced by my love of nature and organic forms, and I think those qualities are apparent in my metal pieces as well. I grew up in Colorado in a family of out-doorsy people, as well ”do-it-yourselfers” and builders. I leaned early to work with my hands and think about design and function. Building materials are my favorite medium of choice these days - wood, steel, screws, plaster and paint provide interesting textures and can be formed in so many ways! My work has become increasing whimsical and spontaneous. I want it to be fun and energetic, while still maintaining a sense of elegance. Each piece is an expression of joy, and the celebration of the amazing human ability to take raw materials and reform them into something new.”
