Oil and acrylic painter Ken Chapin strives to celebrate the divine excellencies evident in creation, with special concentration on landscapes of the American West and Midwest. Engaging compositions are selected and refined as a framework for broken brushwork that evokes the visual and emotional effects of natural light and atmosphere. Recent recognitions include Fourth Place Oil, STEMS Plein Air Paint Event 2013; Second Place, Night Paint, at the Big Cedar Lodge 2012 Paint Out; First Place Oil, STEMS Plein Air Paint Event 2012; and Second Place Best of Show from juror Matt Smith at the Big Cedar Lodge 2011 Paint Out. He received first place awards at the Montelle Winery Paint-Out at the Augusta Missouri 8th Annual Plein Air Event in 2010, and the Buena Vista Paint-Out at the Colorado Mountain Plein Air Festival in 2009. Ken is a Signature Artist in the National Oil and Acrylic Painters Society. He holds a Bachelor of Science degree in Art Education from Missouri State University, and a Master of Arts degree in Studio Art, Painting, from the University of Missouri at Kansas City. He taught art in the Independence Missouri Public School System for thirty-one years.
